Some Benefits of Cloud Computing

Some benefits of cloud computingLet’s take a look at some benefits of cloud computing-There are tons of them!  And perhaps a million more potential benefits that have yet to be developed…

If you think for one minute that your life isn’t being affected by cloud computing, you are most likely mistaken…  No offense of course!

But the truth is that if you’re reading this article, then you probably have been dabbling in cloud computing and don’t even know it!

That’s because cloud-based technologies have made a HUGE impact on society– mostly for the better! (So far…)

What are the Benefits of Cloud Computing?

Video Sharing

One of the major benefits of cloud computing is that it has provided a platform for people to share videos about a wide range of subjects.  And we’re not just talking about “how-to” videos on cake baking…  though you can become a pretty good baker from watching YouTube vids!

No, the more profound benefit of cloud computing in this case is that anyone, from virtually anywhere can share information and details about their lives easily and accurately, without the viewer needing to spend a large amount of time downloading a gargantuan-sized  file.

Thanks to video sharing sites like YouTube and Vimeo, a Canadian can get a glimpse into the day-to-day life of an Indonesian (if he or she wanted to!)

The geo-political implications of cloud computing technology could prove to be game changing for many oppressed countries.  Because it’s so easy to share videos showing the conditions inside such states, it’s harder for the world to turn a blind eye…

Some people attribute recent Middle Eastern revolutions to this use of cloud computing technology,

at least in part!

Web-based email

This one has been around for a while now– but let’s not skip over it!

Email is a big deal!  Not only for personal reasons, but especially business.  In fact, there is a whole industry popping up to help business owners manage the amount of email coming in.

It really  has changed how we communicate as a society.  And it’s certainly one of the benefits of cloud computing.

You don’t have to write letters and mail them.  Do you know how revolutionary that is?  From the dawn of civilization up until around 20 years ago, that was humanity’s only option– to send words written down on something– by foot.

Instantaneous world-wide communication is nothing to scoff at!

Data Accessibility

Thanks to many cloud computing services, including ones like Google Drive, you or your business can now have access to your files from anywhere in the world (so long as you have an internet connection).

Not that long ago, we were all still relying on disks, cd’s, dvd’s, and most recently, usb sticks to transport our files.

Those days are limited.

Why buy a physical DVD when you can just buy it on Amazon or something and then just stream it when you want to watch it?  No scratches, No fear of losing it… What more could you want?

The Other Side

Well potentially a lot more…

While there are certainly many benefits of cloud computing, we haven’t had much time to digest the potential disadvantages of cloud computing and the risks of becoming so reliant upon this new technology.

What if it some sort of glitch brought down the whole system?

That would probably really, REALLY be… not fun.

What do you think?
